LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding University women's basketball team dominated Blackburn College, 80-41, at Derek Smith Gymnasium Thursday night. The lady Eagles improved to 8-3 on the season and continue their undefeated streak (6-0) in SLIAC competition, while Blackburn fell to 0-12 and 0-6 in the SLIAC.
Jessica Guy earned her second straight double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds, helping the Eagles out-rebound the beavers 63 to 40 for the game, including 29 to 12 advantage on the offensive glass.
Maya Hardin also had a monster game on the boards with 13 rebounds and added 12 points and four assists, and
Brandy Hunter knocked down three attempts from long range to add 13 points.
The Lady Eagles came out hot getting out of the gate to a 10-0 start, a stretched their lead to 13 points on a Guy jumper with 2:54 to play in the half. However, the Beavers fought back to bring the game within ten points to trail 27-17 at the break, behind six points and six rebounds by Briana Rae.
In the second half, fatigue set in for the Beavers, and SU ran away with the game stretching their lead to a game-high 44 points when Hunter drilled a corner jump shot at the 2:41 mark. The Eagles outscored the Beavers 53-24 in the second half as they won 80-41.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action when they host Iowa Wesleyan College Saturday, January 10 at 1:00 p.m. EST at Derek Smith Gymnasium in the SLIAC Game of the Week.
