LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's basketball team defeated the Webster Gorloks 65-58 Wednesday night in Derek Smith Gymnasium. The Eagles won their fifth straight game and improved to 10-5 on the year and 7-1 in the SLIAC. The Eagles opened a two game lead in the win column in conference play, while Webster fell to 8-6 and 4-3.
Brandon Goeing stayed hot from the outside, making six of ten three-point tries finishing the game with 21 points. Goeing has 18 three point field goals in his last four games. Spalding finished the game making 9/19 from three point land.
Brandon Gabriel added 13 points on 6 out of 13 shooting.
The Gorloks came out firing, opening a 9-2 lead four minutes into the game. The seven point margin would be their largest of the game, as Spalding immediately countered with a 9-1 spurt, giving them their first lead of the game at 11-10. The lead would change hands five more times in the next four minutes. A
Brandon Gabriel layup gave the Eagles a 22-19 lead before the Gorloks reeled off nine unanswered to go up 28-22.The Eagles would fight back, as a
James Turner three pointer just before the horn cut the lead to 30-29 heading into intermission.

Chris Leon broke a 36-all tie and gave the Eagles a lead they would never relinquish. A Chad Sellers tip-in gave Spalding its largest lead of nine at 54-45 with six minutes left to play.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday, January 17 at Westminster at 2:00 p.m. EST.
