The Spalding University men's basketball team lost their SLIAC opener at Greenville, 67-50, Wednesday night in Greenville, Illinois.
Brandon Goeing led SU scorers with 16 points, and
James Turner added 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field.
Ron Harris paced the Panthers with 15 points, while connecting on seven of his 12 field goal attempts.
The Golden Eagles came out ice cold, going 0-for-6 to start the game allowing Greenville to jump out to a 10-0 lead. Greenville's Nick Trisko hit a jumper at the 12:32 mark to give the Panthers their largest lead of the game at 13. Following the Trisko jumper, the Golden Eagles outscored GC 17-8 cutting the Panther's lead to four points following a pair of Jovante Lavendar
free throws, but Greenville scored six of the final eight points in the half to take a 29-21 lead into the break.
Greenville scored the first eight points of the second half to increase their lead to 16 points, but a Lavendar jumper and back-to-back Goeing three-pointers cut the SU deficit to 11 with 16:41 remaining. Nevertheless, the Golden Eagles found themselves trailing by 65-46 following another Panthers run, and SU went on to lose 67-50.
Up next, the Golden Eagles will take on MacMurray College Saturday, December 6. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. EST in Jacksonville, Illinois.
