The Spalding University men's soccer team overwhelmed Eureka in a 16-0 victory. The Golden Eagles went on the attack from the start and built an 11-0 lead by halftime with nine different players scoring a goal in the opening half. In all, ten different players scored in the game including a hat trick from
Jordan Bounds and two goals each from
Sergio Vancini,
Chris Muncy, and
Aden Abdirahman.

The game's opening goal was the product of a Vancini cross that went off a Eureka defender and into the net for an own goal in the 6
th minute. Just 14 seconds later, Vancini registered the first official score by a Golden Eagle player to increase the margin to 2-0. In the 9
th minute,
Deron Buehner put away
Joey Lesher's corner kick for a 3-0 lead. Buehner's goal was the first time in his career that he had scored on a header.

In the 18
th minute, Lesher scored the fourth goal of the game for Spalding on a driven shot from straight away about 25 yards from goal. Less than a minute later, Vancini would strike again with his second goal of the game.
Trevor Bruner added a goal in the 24
th minute to increase the lead to 6-0.

Julio De Leon, Muncy, and Abdirahman would all add goals less than a minute apart from one another starting with De Leon's goal in the 32
nd minute. The quick scoring outburst from the Golden Eagles expanded the lead to 9-0. Abdirahman would add one more goal in the 39
th minute and Bounds finished the first half scoring when he smashed one home right before the halftime whistle to make the score 11-0.

In the second half,
Jacob McMurry and
Justin Toller were able to add to Spalding's lead before Bounds added two more goals to complete his hat trick. Muncy would tally one more goal to round out the scoring for the final margin of 16-0.

Muncy registered three assists in the game and
Abdikadir Hussein,
Jacob Holehan,
Jack Oakey and Abdirahman all recorded two assists each.
Colin Peters,
Colin Ratchford,
Ryan Glynn, Lesher and De Leon also recorded assists.Â

The Golden Eagles outshot Eureka 37-0 and held a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Logan Spencer,
Mike Salamon, and
Hunter Blankenship all combined to earn the clean sheet in goal. The Spalding defense has now recorded seven shutouts on the season.

With the victory over Eureka, the Golden Eagles improved their record on the season to 9-5-1, 3-2-1. On Saturday, October 25, the Spalding University men's soccer team will celebrate Senior Day and host Fontbonne at Champions Trace. Kickoff is set for 12 PM EST.
