Box Score 2 The Spalding University volleyball team won both games of their tri-match with I.U. Southeast and St. Thomas University (FL) Wednesday to improve to 4-1 on the season.
SU knocked off cross river rival I.U. Southeast 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 25-10, 16-25, 13-15) in their first match.
The Golden Eagles dug themselves into a 2-1 hole, but won the fourth and fifth set to get the 3-2 victory over the Grenadiers.
Spalding swept St. Thomas University (FL) 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20) in the nightcap. The Golden Eagles won the first two sets, and held off a late Bobcat run in the third to secure the sweep.
Outside hitters
Elisa Burkman and Stacey Heitzman led the Golden Eagle attack. Burkman finished the night with 29 kills, while Heitzman added 24.
Katelyn Cosgrove and
Morgan Wilson led SU in assists. Cosgrove combined for 40, while Wilson had 33.
Junior libero
Casey Wilkerson led the SU defense with 27 digs, while
Erin Downs had four blocks and one block assist.
Up next, Spalding will travel to Hanover, Indiana Saturday, September 9. The Golden Eagles will take on the Hanover College Panthers at 10:00 a.m.
