Box Score Meghan Bowers and Lauren Ketron had 11 kills apiece to lead Transylvania University to a 3-0 sweep over the Spalding University volleyball team Tuesday evening in the Beck Center.
The Golden Eagles, 4-6, hit .029, were outblocked 4.5-2 and committed seven service errors in the 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-19) loss to the Pioneers.
Katelyn Cosgrove tallied four kills to pace the SU offense, while
Kaylee McCartney led the defense with seven digs.
Transy, 8-6, hit .372, combined for 45 kills and nine service aces. Madison Lovern scored seven kills, while Erin Hoffmann led the Pioneer defense with 12 digs.
Spalding fell into a 5-0 hole to start the first set and the Transy attack was too much as SU could not find its way back into the match, losing 25-7.
In the second set, the Golden Eagles again found themselves in a five point hole as the Pioneers jumped to a 7-2 lead. Spalding would fight its way back in the set when they got within three at 10-7 on consecutive Cosgrove kills and a Transy service error.
SU played it best set of the night in the third. The Golden Eagles were within striking distance at 11-9, but a Sydney Watkins kill and two
Kiersten June attack errors contributed to a 5-0 Transy run that would put the set and match out of reach.
The Golden Eagles open SLIAC home play this Saturday when they host MacMurray College at 10:00 a.m. ET in Derek Smith Gymnasium (DSG).
