Volleyball Falls 3-1 and 3-0 at Principia

The Spalding University volleyball team dropped both games of their tri-match at Principia College Saturday afternoon. The Lady Eagles fell to Westminster College 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-21) in the morning match and 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 15-25) to host Principia in the afternoon.

The day looked promising early for SU, as they won the first set against the Blue Jays 25-23, but Westminster would win three straight sets to take the match 3-1.

Thea Mattingly and E.C. Burkman led the Spalding attack with 11 kills each, while Morgan Wilson and Katelyn Cosgrove each tallied 20 assists. Casey Wilkerson recorded 13 kills to lead the defense.

The Golden Eagles hit .056, were out blocked 3-2.5 and committed eight attack errors in the 3-0 loss to the Panthers.

Thea Mattingly paced SU with six kills and Morgan Wilson had nine assists. Casey Wilkerson led the defense with 15 digs.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Tuesday, September 17 when they travel to Lexington, Kentucky to take on Transylvania University at 7:00 p.m.
