Box Score 2 The Spalding University volleyball team defeated Fontbonne University 3-2 (25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 15-25, 15-6) and MacMurray College 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-21) Saturday to conclude their regular season on a seven game win streak.
It took the Golden Eagles five sets to put away Fontbonne in the morning match, but SU dominated the fifth set 15-6 to beat the host Griffins.

Morgan Wilson service ace gave the Golden Eagles a 11-6 lead, Fontbonne would cut Spalding's lead to two at 12-10, but SU went on to win the first set 25-17.
Spalding took a 13-5 lead on a
Victoria Heitzman kill, but Fontbonne outscored SU 20-10 to win the second set 25-23.
The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing 8-6 early in the third set. SU ran off five straight points to take an 11-8 lead and never looked back as they won the set 25-19.
Fontbonne got out to an early lead in the fourth set and SU could not close the gap as the Griffins won the fourth set 25-15, sending the match to a fifth set.
Katelyn Cosgrove tallied four kills to lead Spalding to a 15-6 win in the fifth set, giving the Golden Eagles a 3-2 win.
The Golden Eagles had a much easier route in their afternoon match as they swept MacMurray College 3-0.
Junior outside hitter E.C. Burkman led the Golden Eagle attack with a combined 24 kills, while
Morgan Wilson passed out 48 assist on the day.
Burkman also anchored the SU backline, recording a team-high 33 digs, and
Erin Downs guarded the net with 2.5 blocks.
With the win the Golden Eagles finish the regular season with an 18-11 overall record and 12-6 in the SLIAC. SU is currently in fourth place in the SLIAC, but needs Principia to lose to Fontbonne Tuesday to make the SLIAC Championship tournament due to Principia owning the tie-breaker over Spalding.
