Box Score The Spalding University volleyball team beat Franklin College 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21) Wednesday night, avenging the 3-0 loss they suffered to the Grizzlies on September 25th.
The Golden Eagles took the first set 25-21. SU jumped out to a 9-5 lead, but three straight Grizzly points cut Spalding's lead to one at 9-8. A
Victoria Heitzman touch shot stopped the Franklin run and SU went on to win the set.
Spalding trailed 21-20 in the second set, but the Golden Eagles scored four straight points to take a 24-21 lead, and
Katelyn Cosgrove closed the set with a monster kill to win the set 25-22.
An E.C. Burkman kill gave Spalding a 14-11 lead in the third set, but Franklin went on a 7-1 run to take an 18-15 lead and went on to win the set 25-21.
SU looked to be cruising to victory, leading 18-9 in the fourth set, but Franklin battled back to tie the set 21-21. The Golden Eagles would not be denied, running off four straight points to win the set 25-21.
E.C. Burkman led the Golden Eagle attack with 15 kills, and
Katelyn Cosgrove passed out a team-high 20 assists.
Junior
Casey Wilkerson led the defense with 22 digs, while Sarah Downs recorded 4.5 blocks.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Westminster College. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m., ET.
