Softball Grabs a Split Against Asbury

WILMORE, Ky. - Spalding softball split a weekend doubleheader against Asbury, dropping a close opener before bouncing back in dominant fashion in game two.

Game One: Asbury 6, Spalding 5
Spalding came out strong in the opener, building an early 5-1 lead through the first two innings. Braeanna Billups and Morgan Gambrell each drove in two runs to pace the offense, while Bianca Ward added an RBI to help fuel the fast start. Carsyn Sidebottom also contributed by scoring twice and setting the tone at the top of the lineup.

Despite the early momentum, Asbury chipped away late, scoring two runs in the sixth before a three-run seventh inning completed the comeback and handed Spalding a tough 6-5 loss. Riley Wilkins took the loss in the circle after throwing a complete game effort.

Game Two: Spalding 10, Asbury 1
The Golden Eagles responded in a big way in game two, exploding for a 10-1 run-rule victory behind a dominant all-around performance. Spalding broke things open with a six-run second inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Braeanna Billups and run-scoring hits throughout the lineup.

Riley Wilkins led the offense with a two-hit performance and an RBI, while Olivia O'Neil and Morgan Gambrell each added two hits of their own. Emma Eaton and Riley Beckmann both drove in runs, and Makenna Roush chipped in an RBI as part of an 11-hit attack.

In the circle, Tatum Riddiough was outstanding, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run on two hits while keeping Asbury off balance all game long. Spalding added four more runs in the fifth to put the game away early and secure the split.

Overall Takeaway
Spalding showed resilience across the doubleheader, responding to a heartbreaking game one loss with a dominant bounce-back performance. The offense was consistent throughout the day, with key contributions from Billups, Gambrell, Wilkins, and O'Neil, while Riddiough's strong outing in game two highlighted the team's ability to control games from the circle.
