Men's Lacrosse earned their First Win in Program History

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In a historic moment for the men's lacrosse team, they clinched their first-ever win in the program's history on Saturday. SU emerged victorious over Warren Wilson with a commanding score of 23-6.

Spalding moved to 1-8, while the Owls fell to 0-7.

TURNING POINT
Spalding started strong, as Nicholas Guzman scored his twelfth goal of the season 20 seconds into the game. This gave SU huge momentum, as Xzayvyon Isom scored back-to-back goals to give the Golden Eagles a three-goal cushion. As the clock ticked, just a minute later, the Owls scored their first goal of the game, making it 3-1. The Golden Eagles did not let that affect them much, as SU grabbed the next six goals of the game. Hank Ohlen snagged his first goal of the season, Guzman grabbed three more (making it four for the game), and Jackson Smith netted his first goal of the game. This gave the Golden Eagles a huge lead to end the first quarter, winning 9-1.

The second quarter saw SU continue their dominance, with Jordan Garcia making a strong start with two quick goals within 16 seconds. Spalding scored two goals of their own, but SU's offense was relentless. Cooper Robinson and Logan Reihing added to the scoreboard, extending the lead to 13-1. The Owls scored another goal, but SU's offense was unstoppable, with Guzman and Brady Risinger adding two more goals before halftime. This impressive performance gave the Golden Eagles a comfortable 15-2 lead at the half.

As the third quarter began, Spalding could feel their first victory nearing. Isom began the scoring in the half with a goal a minute and a half into the third. Warren Wilson followed with their third goal of the game, but SU did not let off the gas pedal. The Golden Eagles netted the next five goals. Eli Teater, Guzman, and Isom grabbed the goals for SU. This ended the third quarter, and Spalding took the lead into the fourth, 21-3.

As the Golden Eagles knew history was in the making, the clock had 15 minutes left. The Owls began the scoring in the fourth as they grabbed a quick one. Isom followed by netting his sixth goal of the game. Warren Wilson tried to fight back into this one as they snagged two more goals. As the clock ticks towards history, Isom netted his seventh goal of the game with 50 seconds left. SU proved their dominance and held strong as the clock hit zero. Spalding grabbed the win, 23-6, and received their first dub in program history.
