LOUISVILLE, Ky. - History was made at the Spalding Athletic Complex Friday night when the Golden Eagle men's lacrosse team took part in the first-ever men's lacrosse game in the institution's history.
Spalding fell to 0-1 after the 21-4 loss to Piedmont University. The Lions moved to 2-1 with the win.
TURNING POINT
The first goal in program history was scored by
Cooper Robinson. The freshman scored the goal at 7:06 in the second half with an assist from
Jordan Garcia. Robinson also picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers for the Golden Eagles.
Mason Moore picked up the first multi-goal game for Spalding. Moore scored two unassisted goals with one coming in the third quarter and the other in the fourth. He led the Golden Eagles in shots with four attempts.
The final Spalding goal was scored by
Xzayvyon Isom. He scored with 1:58 left in the final quarter.
John Kelly got the goalkeeping start for the Golden Eagles, and played all 60 minutes. He collected 13 saves and picked up five ground balls.
GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
- Spalding picked up 24 ground balls in the inaugural game.
- A total of nine SU student-athletes had at least one ground ball to their name.
- Xzayvyon Isom won two of his faceoff appearances with Eli Teater winning one.
- The Golden Eagles were a perfect 3-3 on clears in the fourth period.
