LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Gunner Mahoney has been named the Director of Athletics Communication at Spalding, Athletics Director Brian Clinard announced Monday. 

Mahoney officially begins his duties with Spalding, Thursday.

He will lead all day-to-day operations of the athletics communication office and assist in event management. As part of his duties, Mahoney will also oversee all website maintenance of SpaldingAthletics.com and manage the department's social media presence on all platforms.

"I want to thank Brian and the rest of the Athletic Department for giving me the opportunity to take on this important role at Spalding," Mahoney said. "I am excited to take on the challenges I face as a Golden Eagle and see what future holds!"

"I cannot wait to help the staff and student athletes at Spalding spread their wings and continue to grow."

Prior to accepting this position at Spalding, Mahoney worked under former Director of Athletics Communication Noah Hughes as a Graduate Assistant. In this role, he held contact duties for 11 of the school's 16 sports and helped with event operations. Mahoney also assisted with social media presence and media publications. He skillfully led Spalding through the transition period after Hughes moved on to Centre College in Danville, KY.

Mahoney also previously spent time at Spalding as an intern for Clinard and then Hughes. As an intern, Mahoney learned the hands-on skills necessary to succeed in the field of Athletics Communication. 

Mahoney graduated from the University of Louisville in 2022, earning his bachelor's degree in Education and Human Development in Sports Administration. He is a native of Mount Washington, Kentucky.
