GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding women's basketball team lost to Greenville, 68-66, on a last second shot Saturday at H.J. Long Gymnasium dropping to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles got out to quick start and led 11-4 following a
Maleah Hirn layup at the 6:47 mark in the first quarter. After a Greenville run cut SU's lead to one, a pair of
Alex Martin free throws and an
Allison Just layup pushed the margin back to five points, but a pair of Brittany Lopez free throws trimmed SU's lead to three points at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, a Hirn three-pointer on Spalding's second possession of the period extended the margin to six points. However, the Panthers answered with a 12-3 run to pull ahead 31-26. Spalding evened the score outpointing Greenville, 9-4, over the final 4:08 as the two teams went into the locker room at the half tied at 35.
- Down one midway through the third period,
Kailey Reed scored on a layup in transition to spark a 6-0 Spalding spurt, but the Panthers were able to cut SU's lead to two following a Morgan St. James on Greenville's final possession of the period. To start the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles strung together a 7-2 run capped off by a
Kendyl Powell layup extending SU's lead to seven points, 59-52. Greenville responded with a 12-4 run to take a 64-63 lead with just under two minutes to play, but a Hirn three-pointer put Spalding back on top, 66-64, at the one-minute mark. A St. James layup tied the game at 66 with 37 seconds to play setting Spalding up for final shot inside 10 seconds. However, Hirn turned the ball over and Greenville's Jantzen Michael drilled a jumper at the buzzer to down the Golden Eagles, 68-66.
NOTABLE STATS

Maleah Hirn led the Golden Eagles offense scoring a career-high 18 points going 6-of-10 from the field.
Alex Martin also finished in double-figures with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Allison Just fell a point short of a double-double tallying 9 points and 13 rebounds.
- One major stat was the Panther's ability to convert 23 Spalding turnovers into 27 points off turnovers give Greenville a plus-10 margin in the stat.

- Morgan St. James led all Greenville scorers with 18 points, while Emily Brandland and Wesley Woodard scored 11 points each and Jantzen Michael added 10 points.
