The Hanover College Volleyball Invitational was held Sept. 9-10 in Collier Arena.

Spalding opened the two-day event with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-19, loss against Hanover College. The Panthers dropped a 25-20, 25-20, 15-25, 22-25, 15-11, decision to Capital University (Ohio) in the nightcap.

Anderson University notched victories in its two matches. The Ravens handled Maryville College (Tenn.) 19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, the Golden Eagles lost a close match going to all 5 games 16-25, 25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 17-15.

Maryville later bounced back to hand Capital a 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 27-25, setback.

The invitational continued Saturday, Sept. 10, with six matches. In the morning match, Anderson defeated Hanover 25-22, 25-19, 17-25, 25-19. while Spalding lost to Maryville 25-22, 25-12, 25-27 on Court #2.

Capitol defeated Anderson 29-27, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16, and Centre fought back to defeat Maryville, 21-25, 16-25, 27-17, 26-2, 15-13 in the second round of matches.

Hanover used a spirited comeback to rally over Centre in five games 25-27, 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 17-15, while the Golden Eagles fell short once again against Capital 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 in the final round of matches.

Spalding will hope to bounce back Tuesday when they travel to Transylvania University.  Game time is 7:00 ET.
