Spalding Volleyball Opens Conference Weekend with Two Victories
The Golden Eagle volleyball team got off on the right foot in conference Saturday with two victories against conference opponents Greenville and Eureka.
In the first match, Spalding took on SLIAC Preseason ranked #1 Greenville College. The Golden Eagles got off on the right foot defeating Greenville 25-20 in the first set. Spalding would not let the Panthers gain any momentum winning the second and third sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18.
Alex Marquardt (Sr. Atherton HS) led the Golden Eagles with 14 kills. Stefanie Spalding (So. Manual HS) added 10 digs on defense. Ashley Arnold (Fr. Boone CO) had 3 serving aces.
Spalding took on Eureka College in the 2nd game of the double header and the Red Devils were no match for the Golden Eagles. Spalding took all 3 sets 25-21, 25-10, 25-11.
Carrie Woods (Sr. Moore HS) led with 10 kills out of 22 attacks. Jessica Luker (Sr. Presentation) had 8 digs for the Golden Eagles and Marquardt added 2 solo blocks.
The Golden Eagles improve to 5-7 on the season and 2-0 in SLIAC play. Spalding is hosting Asbury College this Wednesday, September 21st at 7:00 ET.
