Women’s Soccer has Tough Weekend

Spalding University Soccer had a tough Labor Day weekend ending it with 2 losses to quality opponents.  Though they are making strides as a team it was a strenuous few games.

Saturday the lady golden eagles took on the University of Mount Union, a very talented team from Ohio. Goals came early and often in the first period as the Raiders first two scores came over a span of 23 seconds in the 11th minute.  Mount Union finished with 5 goals in the first half making the game pretty much out of reach. The final score was 7-0.

Sunday, once again the Golden Eagles were matched up against another quality opponent in Hiram College.  Hiram got on the board in the 25th minute with a penalty kick to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Hiram found the net once again in the 73rd minute to put the Terriers up by the score of 2-0.  They added an insurance goal shortly after and the golden eagles ended up losing 3-0.

Head coach Kevin Cromwell stated, “Our ladies were much more competitive today.  Even though we were not on the winning side of things, we are taking steps in the right direction.  I am looking forward to practice this week to work on some issues we have.

The Golden Eagles are back on the road Wednesday September 7th taking on St. Catharine College.  Game time is 6:00PM ET.
