Women’s Basketball Books Hawaii Trip
The Spalding women’s basketball team will travel to paradise this year when they embark on a 6-day trip to Honolulu, Hawaii. The team will leave for Hawaii on December 17th and return to Louisville on December 23rd.
Two games against Division III opponents highlight the trip. On December 18th, the Golden Eagles take on Worchester State College from Massachusetts. The following night, Spalding will play highly-ranked George Fox University from Oregon, the third-ranked Division III team in the nation in pre-season polls.
While the trip offers a chance for great competition against schools from other parts of the country, there will also be time to relax and enjoy the sights of Hawaii. On the agenda is a trip to the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, site of the Japanese attack which prompted the United States entrance into World War II. The traveling party will also have the opportunity to enjoy Wakiki beach and hike to the top of Diamondhead during their stay.
“This is a great opportunity for our young ladies to see and enjoy a part of our country that many have never visited,” commented Coach Charlie Just. “We have 5 seniors who have worked hard and done a lot to build our program over the years, and I am glad that we can finally do this for them and our other players. I wish that we could have made it happen sooner for some of the players that came before them. Our team, parents and coaches have put a great deal of time and effort into fundraising for the past two years to make it happen, and I am hopeful that we can continue to take trips like this for many of our teams in the future.”
