Lady Golden Eagles Dominate MacMurray College
The Lady Golden Eagles bounced back from their loss to Franklin by running MacMurray out of the gym tonight winning 77-38. Spalding was led by freshman Jessica Guy’s 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Kerstin Hayes also filled the stat sheet finishing the night with 8 points, 5 assists, and 8 steals. The Lady Golden Eagles beat MacMurray with relentless defense finishing the game with 19 steals and forcing 32 MacMurray turnovers. On offense Spalding was very efficient from the field finishing the night 41.3%.
MacMurray got on the board first with a basket from Fionnuala Toner. The Lady Golden Eagles responded quickly, leading 12-7 at the 13:41 mark in the first half. Spalding increased their lead to 10 with a 5-0 run over the next 3 minutes. MacMurray cut the deficit to 8 trailing 22-14 with 7:30 left in the first half. Over the next 5 minutes the Lady Golden Eagles increased their lead to 14 by creating turnovers on defense and capitalizing on fast breaks. The Lady Golden Eagles went into halftime leading MacMurray 38-21. Jessica Guy’s 16 points and 7 rebounds led Spalding’s offense in the first half, while Kerstin Hayes 5 steals sparked the defense to a team total of 9 steals resulting in 16 MacMurray turnovers.
Spalding started the 2nd half with a Kelly Harrod jumper. The Lady Golden Eagles pulled away early in the second half leading 56-28 at the 12:04 mark in the 2nd half. The Golden Eagles increased their lead by forcing turnovers and knocking down shots. Spalding continued their dominance outscoring MacMurray 10-2 over the next 5 minutes. The Lady Golden Eagles continued to run away with the game forcing MacMurray into several turnovers over the next 8 minutes holding a commanding 71-38 lead with 3:00 minutes left in the 2nd half.
