Women’s Basketball Coach
Women’s Golf Coach
Coach Just begins his second season as head women’s golf coach after starting the program in 2009-10. Despite having only three players this past season, the Golden Eagles did participate in seven tournaments in the fall and spring. With the addition of at least two newcomers, Just looks forward to being able to compete as a full team this fall.
While gaining recognition as a basketball coach over the years, Coach Just has also been an avid golfer with a passion for the game. That passion and interest was developed through several of his cousins who played high school and college golf and are still well-known in the local golfing community. His cousin Elmore, a member of the Kentucky Golf Hall-of-Fame, was the founder of Louisville Golf Company. Elmore also hired architect Arthur Hills to build Persimmon Ridge Golf Club, one of the top-rated courses in the state of Kentucky.
Coach Just, who has carried as low as a four-handicap, believes that Spalding can develop a top-flight NCAA Division III program. “Right now, our goal is very simple—recruit and build the numbers in our program and help those players improve as much as possible,” he stated. “As we get those numbers, the competition in our program will create better players, which in turn creates a better team. While I can help our girls with the basics of a good golf swing, I am not a swing coach. I can send them to professionals who can help in that area if they want or need it. My job is to recruit the best players that we possibly can and to help them learn to deal with the mental aspects of the game, both from an individual and team standpoint. I also want them to realize just how important a good short game is to their success in scoring.”
Coach Just and his wife Deanna have two children, Kate and Kyle.
