Spalding’s Men’s Cross Country Team Wins the USCAA National Championship
Friday the Spalding University Men’s Cross Country team captured the USCAA National Championship for the first time in the school’s history. The team traveled to Concord, NH along with the other 11 best teams in the country to compete in this race. Spalding dominated the race finishing with 22 points, 38 points ahead of the next competitor Dine College. Dine has not only won their share of National Championships but has controlled the championship for the past decade winning the last 9 titles.
Abram Deng (Central HS, Louisville, KY) was the individual National Champ winning the race with another of his teammates also making the podium, Haile Jemane, who came in 3rd.
“I’m so proud of our guys,” Head Coach Kevin Alessandro stated. “They ran such a great race, on such a big day. I can’t say enough for the effort that these guys have put in and they deserve this as much as anyone does.” The prospect of beating Dine College was also something the staff was proud of. “That school has won it 9 years in a row, that means instant respect for them. We were the better team today and again, I can’t tell you how proud I am of my team.
The team captured the 3rd National Championship in school history for all sports. In 2008 the Volleyball Team and the Women’s basketball team both won a title.
