Visiting Gorloks Top Golden Eagles in Men’s/Women’s Soccer

Spalding opened up conference play Saturday, when visiting Webster University came into town.  The men opened up the double header at 11:00 am.  Webster entered the game at 2-4 and Spalding entered at 1-4 with both teams coming off losses and looking to get back on track.

The first half was an evenly played one with the score ending 0-0.  Webster had 9 shots and Spalding had 6.  The second half contained more action with the Golden Eagles getting on board first with a goal by Evan Childers in the 53rd minute.  Trevor Bruner played a cross that bounced around the middle of the box until Childers put a strong touch on it for the finish.

The goal seemed to wake the Gorloks up a little bit when they scored about 10 minutes later and then 2 minutes after that.  Spalding put some pressure on Webster late, but their effort fell a little short.  Spalding finished with 9 shots and Webster finished with 23.  Andrew Trombley had 7 saves for the Golden Eagles.

Spalding is back on the road this Friday September 23rd when they take on hosting Carthage College.  Game time is 8:00 ET.

The women’s game started with visiting Webster at 3-2 and Spalding at 0-4.  Webster got on the board early in the match during the 5th minute and added one in the 38th minute to go ahead 2-0.  However, Spalding cut the lead in half in the 44th minute with a breakaway goal from Brittany Goode (Campbellsville, KY Taylor County HS).

Webster would add 2 more goals in the second half making it a final of 4-1.  Spalding had 5 shots while Webster had 29.  Monica Ross had 7 saves for the Golden Eagles.

Spalding is back in action this Wednesday September 21st when they travel to Centre College.  Game time is 7:00 ET.
