Men’s Soccer Loses Twice over Weekend

The Golden Eagles faced the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets (Berea, OH) Friday at the 22nd Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic at Centre College.  This was the first of two matches in the tournament for Spalding.  After a very close first half, Spalding fell 5-1 at the final whistle.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at the 15:14 mark of the first half with an unassisted goal.  The first half ended with the 1-0 score and the Golden Eagles were still very much in the game.

In the second half, B-W extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal  at the 58:19 mark  Undaunted, Spalding came right back to make it a 2-1 contest when freshman forward Colin Peters (Fr. Henderson CO HS) scored at the 61:04 mark with an assist from Brent Hannah (Fr. Yorktown, HS).  The Golden Eagles started falling apart late and gave up 3 more goals putting the game out of reach.                                    The final score was Baldwin Wallace over Spalding 5-1.

Saturday started out very similar when Spalding squared up against Hanover College in the 2nd game of the Classic.  Both teams were very much in the contest the entire 1st half going into the break at 0-0.  However, Hanover came out in the 2nd half and got on the board in the 60th minute which would be the game deciding goal.

Spalding was involved in two controversial plays offensively in which they thought they had scored twice. However, the results of each play were “no goal.”  Hanover outshot Spalding 17-12.

The Golden Eagles fall to 1-2 after the weekend.   Spalding will look to get things back on track this Tuesday at Franklin College.  Game time is 8:30 ET.
