Deng, Trombley Honored as First POTW
St. Louis, Mo. – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the first Athletes of the Week for the Fall 2011 season.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Spalding University’s Abram Deng, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky. (Central), has been named the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 1-5.
Deng finished 3rd out of 75 total runners at the Sodexho Grizzly Cross Country Invitational hosted by Franklin College. In 100 degree heat he ran a time of 27:31.94 on the 8K course, finishing just 48 seconds behind the top runner. Spalding placed fifth out of seven teams competing.
MEN’S SOCCER – DEFENSIVE
Spalding University’s Andrew Trombley, a freshman from Elizabethtown, Ky. (Central Hardin), has been named the Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 1-5.
Trombley, a goalkeeper, recorded the victory and shutout in his collegiate debut for the Golden Eagles. Spalding defeated Culver-Stockton 1-0. Trombley tallied four saves in 90 minutes in goal.
