Men’s Basketball Drops Contest at Coastal Carolina

Spalding University traveled to Conway, SC this past Friday to take on Division 1 opponent Coastal Carolina University.  Spalding was coming off a tough loss to Transylvania University earlier this week and Coastal just came off their biggest win of the year with a win over SEC LSU.

The opportunity for the Golden Eagles to travel and take on a Division 1 opponent is a rare occurrence and Spalding will be doing it twice this season.  Not only did they take on CCU, but they will be traveling to Chattanooga, TN later this season to take on UT Chattanooga, Coach Gray’s alma mater.

The Golden Eagles went into the contest looking to grow as a team and learn a thing or two from their D1 opponent.  Coastal started their scoring early shooting 8 of 8 from the field in the first 8 minutes as the Chanticleers defeated Spalding 87-43.

Jametrius Brasher led the Golden Eagles in scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebound and recording 3 blocks.  The two teams combined for 38 turnovers with Spalding recording 20 and CCU with 18.  Coastal attacked Spalding in the paint and this was a threat they were unable to stop.  The Chants would end up with 50 points in the paint.

Spalding will host 3 teams this Friday and Saturday in the 1st annual Spalding Thanksgiving Tournament.  Friday, John Carroll will take on Alma  and Spalding will take on Victory at 5 and 7 respectively.

The winners of each game will advance to the finals on Saturday at 3pm.  The 3rd Place game will be held at 1pm before the finals.
