Golden Eagles Roll Past Principia 82-52
The Golden Eagle cruised to an 82-52 victory over Principia Saturday afternoon. The Panthers kept it close early on, but the Golden Eagles imposed their will, pulling away midway through the first half. The Golden Eagles had very balanced day offensively with five players scoring in double figures. Tyler St. Julian and Johnell Harding led the way with points 13 apiece, Quashauan Hamilton added 11 points, while Jametrius Brasher and Dominique Sangester each scored 10 points.
Jametrius Brasher got things started for Spalding knocking down a floater over two defenders to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. Tyler St. Julian converted a three point play giving Spalding and early 5-0 lead. Principia’s Matt Jones hit a jumper to get the Panthers on the scoreboard, but a Brasher put back and two Quayshaun Hamilton free throws would put the Golden Eagles up 9-2. Principia would hit two free throws cutting Spalding’s lead to 5, but Dominique Sangester would knock down a three pointer to push the Golden Eagle lead to 8. Spalding and Principia went shot for shot over the next five minutes. The Golden Eagles led 21-12 at 10 minute mark in the first. Jametrius grabbed a rebound and converted a three point play extending Spalding’s lead to 12 at 24-12. Brandon Gabriel’s runner in the lane put Spalding up 26-12, forcing a Principia timeout. Principia connected on a three pointer out the timeout to cut Spalding’s lead to 11, but a Brandon Gabriel jumper would push the Golden Eagle lead back to 13. Motray Robinson’s floater followed by two Johnell Harding free throws pushed Spalding’s lead to 20, at 36-16 with 5:13 to play in the half. Tyler St. Julian hit a three pointer to put Spalding up 39-16. Principia would out score Spalding 9-8 to end the half, but the Golden Eagles took a 47-25 lead to the locker room at halftime. Tyler St. Julian and Quayshaun Hamilton led Spalding scorers at the half with 8 points each.
Tyler St. Julian kept things going for Spalding, knocking down a three pointer from the wing on the Golden Eagles first possession of the second half. Principia cut Spalding’s to 23, but Quayshuan Hamilton answered with a three pointer from the corner to put the Golden Eagles up 26 at 55-29. Principia went on a quick 4-0 cutting Spalding’s lead to 22. But that’s as close as the Panthers would get, as the Golden Eagles coasted to an 82-52 win.
