Golden Eagles Men Fall 81-70 to IU Southeast

The Golden Eagles fell to Indiana University Southeast Saturday, 81-70 at Derek Smith Gymnasium. Tyler St. Julian led Spalding with a career 14 points. Spalding matched IU Southeast in nearly every statistic. The main difference was IU Southeast shot 39.1% from 3 point range while Spalding only connected on 21.4% of their 3 point attempts. IU Southeast also out rebounded Spalding 39-30 for the afternoon leading to 8 extra shot attempts for the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast jumped to an 8-0 lead, but baskets by Tyler St. Julian and Montray Robinson cut the IU Southeast lead to 4 at 8-4.  IU Southeast pushed the lead to six with a pair of free throws. Spading cut the IU Southeast lead to 3 at 10-7 with a free throw by Montray Robinson and Tyler St. Julian layup. IU Southeast went up 13-9, but a pair of free throws by Jametrius Brasher and Quayshaun Hamilton layup cut the IU Southeast lead to 2 at 13-11. IU Southeast went on a 4-0 run to push their lead to six until a brasher layup cut the IUS lead back to 4 at 17-13.  IU Southeast went on 5-0 run to push their lead to 9 at 22-13. A St. Julian jumper cut the Spalding deficit to 7 with 11 minutes left in the first half. IU Southeast extended their lead to 10 at 27-17 with 8:40 to play in the first. A 4-0 Golden Eagles run cut the IU Southeast lead to 6 with 7:18 left in the first. A 5-0 run by IU Southeast pushed the Grenadier lead back to 9 at 31-22 with 6:06 left in the first half. A brasher jumper brought Spalding back within 7, but an IU Southeast free throw pushed their lead back to 8. Two St. Julian free throws cut the IU Southeast lead to 6, but IU Southeast responded with a 5-0 run to push their lead to 11 at 37-26. A 6-0 Spalding run cut the IUS lead to 4 at 37-33 with 1:30 left in the first half. IU Southeast responded with a 7-0 run to go into halftime leading 44-33. Tyler St. Julian leads Spalding at halftime with 10 points.  

IU Southeast started the second half with a 5-0 run extending their lead to 16 at 49-33. A Quayshaun Hamilton jumper cut the IU Southeast lead to 14 at 56-42 with 14:20 left in the game. Spalding trailed 68-48 with 9 minutes left in regulation. A 3 pointer pushed the IU Southeast lead to 22 at 71-49. A free throw and Chris McDonald hook cut the IU Southeast lead to 19 with 6:24 to go. Spalding cut the lead to 16 at 77-61. Spalding would make a late run cutting the final deficit to 11 losing 81-70.
