Golden Eagles Fall to MacMurray 60-53
The Golden Eagles lost a 60-53 battle to MacMurray Monday night at Derek Smith Gymnasium. Spalding was led by Montray Robinson’s 12 points and Johnell Hardin’s 9 rebounds. The Golden Eagle’s played a close game out rebounding MacMurray 40-36, but could not overcome a nightmarish 30.3% shooting performance in the second half.
MacMurray jumped to a 20-12 lead over the Golden Eagles at the 9:48 mark in the first half forcing the Golden Eagles into 7 early turnovers. Spalding cut the deficit to 4 points with 4:05 left to play in the first half. Johnell Harding then cut MacMurray’s lead to 1 with a 3 pointer at the 2:15 mark. The Golden Eagles took the lead 25-24 on a Montray Robertson layup with 12.5 seconds left in the first half. Spalding held off two late shots by MacMurray to take a 1 point lead into halftime. Montray Robertson paced the Golden Eagles with 10 points, while Johnell Harding collected 7 rebounds. Spalding took the lead by out rebounding MacMurray 27 – 13, and holding the Highlanders to 33.3% shooting from the field.
MacMurray retook the lead on a run out by Cody Best, but Spalding was quick to respond regaining the lead with a driving layup by Johnell Hardin. The first 5 minutes of the second half was back and forth with Spalding regaining the lead on a Robert Pittman layup at the 15:03 mark. MacMacMurray took the lead at the 12:37 mark and never looked back. A Jametrius Brasher jump hook cut the lead to 1 neat the 4 minute mark in the second half, but MacMurry pushed their lead to 7 with 2:06 left to play. The Golden Eagles would battle back cutting the deficit to 4 with 46 seconds left, but could not hit a shot down the stretch losing to MacMurray 53-60.
