Baseball Holds Conference Lead with Another Sweep
The Spalding University baseball team was on fire coming into this past weekend’s 3 game set with Blackburn, and unfortunately for the Beavers, they could do nothing to stop the Golden Eagle express. Spalding took all 3 games and did it in dominating fashion.
Spalding took game 1 Saturday in a route defeating Blackburn 21-4. It was the highest output of the season for the Golden Eagles and their most dominating win to date. Tyler Brown got the win on the mound as he continued his fantastic freshmen season.
In game 2, the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday, the Beavers managed to hang a little closer but still could not keep the Golden Eagles from getting the win. Spalding took game 2, 5-1 as Jake Wardrip picked up where Tyler Brown left off on Saturday and shut down the Beavers.
In game 3, starting pitcher Taylor Reilly turned in one of his best performances of the season as his solid pitching led Spalding to a 9-2 victory and a 3 game sweep of the Beavers. Reilly capped off 3 consecutive games of solid pitching on the mound and Spalding remained unbeaten in the SLIAC with an 11-0 record.
The Golden Eagles are now on a 9 game winning streak and are 19-7 on the season. Spalding will be right back in action this afternoon as they face off against MacMurray. Game 1 is set for a 4pm start.
