8 Student Athletes Make All-Academic Team
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced yesterday the award winners for the 2011 Fall All-Academic Team. In order to qualify for this prestigious award a student-athlete must excel both on the playing field and in the classroom. Spalding University was well represented when the announcement came. 8 student athletes were awarded All-Academic which continues to add to the long list of awards our fall teams collected.
On the Men’s Soccer team there was one student athlete that donned this award. Wes Miller, a Senior Occupational Therapy major out of Male HS in Louisville, KY. Wes has played an integral part for golden eagle soccer the past four years and his presence will be missed on the field as well as the classroom. Wes led the team in goals this season.
On the Women’s Soccer side Elizabeth Fuchs, a sophomore Occupational Therapy major out of Providence HS in New Albany, IN, Monica Ross, a sophomore Communications major out of Columbia Hickman HS IN Columbia, MO, and Kelsey Traughber, a junior out of Floyd Central HS IN Floyd Knobs, IN Natural Science major out of Butler HS in Louisville, KY and Amanda Trombley, were all named to the All-Academic team. The Women’s Soccer team made great strides this year and looks forward to the future of the program.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country garnered three awards with James Borengasser, a sophomore from Borden, IN, Samantha Cave, a sophomore from Presentation Academy in Louisville, KY and Liz Schooler, a junior out of Seymour HS, in Seymour, IN, all named to the All-Academic Team.
Rounding out the award winners is a Women’s Volleyball student athlete in Carrie Woods, out of Moore HS in Louisville, KY. The team recently finished second in the nation for the 3rd time in as many years this past weekend.
The Spalding University Athletic Department would like to congratulate all the award winners this year on their success both on the field and court as well as in the classroom.
