Golden Eagles Come Up Short at Campbellsville The Golden Eagles, despite their fast start, fell short in non conference play when they traveled to Campbellsville University 66-52. The loss moves Spalding to 3-5 for the season after winning two big conference games in the past week. Spalding took a 7-3 lead to start the game, but the Tigers took advantage of Golden Eagle turnovers and tied it up 10-10. Spalding had 14 turnovers in the first half and shot 22.7 percent from the field (5-22). Head coach Kevin Gray had his work cut out for him at half and must have had an inspiring halftime talk because the Golden Eagles came out as a different team in the second half. They shot 66.7 percent in the second half (16-24), but were unable to cut the lead any closer than 14 points. Once again, DeWhon McAfee led the Golden Eagles with 16 points and Karlos Thompson had 1 block and 6 rebounds. "We did not play very well in the first half; however, the second half was a different story." Gray said. “The guys played with a different intensity in the second half and now we need to figure out how to get that same fire for the entire game.” Spalding travels to Alice Lloyd College this Saturday at 2:00pm for another non-conference battle.
