Women’s Basketball Falls to 3rd Ranked George Fox in Hawaii
Coming off an impressive win last night, the Golden Eagles had their work cut out tonight when they face George Fox University. George Fox is currently ranked #3 in the country by d3 sports and is undefeated on this young season.
Spalding would get on the board early in the first minute with a 3 by Melinda Leavell who used her momentum from last nights impressive shooting. George Fox, using their size, would go on a 8-0 run within the next few minutes. The Golden Eagles would go 8 straight minutes without a score until Sophomore Lindsey Roarx would put a jumper away.
George Fox took a 35-16 lead into halftime making it very tough on Spalding to come back from the margin. Leavell led the Golden Eagles with 8 points going 2-2 from 3 and 2-2 from the charity stripe.
The second half faired a little better for the Golden Eagles defensively holding George Fox to 23 points compared to 35 in the first half. Offensively, Spalding could not get into a rhythm with a big strong George Fox defense.
Jessica Guy would end the game with 10 boards 5 and 5 respectively. Kerstin Hayes and Melinda Leavell both led the Golden Eagles with 8 points. Spalding shot only 22% from the field compared to 42% for George Fox.
The ladies will be headed back to Kentucky this Thursday in time for the holidays. Their next contest is January 4th when they take on SLIAC opponent Eureka College.
