Lady Golden Eagles Fall to IU Southeast 63-37
The Lady Golden Eagles lost to Indiana University Southeast Wednesday night at Derek Smith Gymnasium. The game was close in the first half, but IU Southeast would pull away in the second half winning 63-37. Melinda Leavell led Spalding in scoring with 13 points and Tesha Wright grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Golden Eagles. The biggest problem tonight was knocking down shots. Spalding shot 26.5% from the field and only 30.4% from the free throw line.
IU Southeast scored the first basket on a 3 pointer by Megan Murphy. Spalding got on the board at the 16:20 mark with a free throw by Tesha Wright. The Golden Eagles cut IU Southeast’s lead to 1 on the next possession with a 3 pointer by Kerstin Hayes. A layup by Tia Wineinger pushed the IU Southeast lead to 3 at 7-4 with 13:41 to play in the first half. A slashing layup by Megan Davis cut the Spalding deficit to 4 at 6-10 at the 11:42 mark, but two free throws by Ashmere Woods pushed the IU Southeast lead back to 6. A steal and layup by Brooke Willoughby pushes IU Southeast’s lead to 14-6 with 10:30 to play in the half. A layup by Melinda Leavell cut the IU Southeast lead to 7 at 15-8 with 9 minutes to play in the first. A Kristen Baker free throw and a jumper by Melinda Leavell cut the IU Southeast lead back to 7 at the 4 minute mark. IU Southeast free throw extended the lead back to 8, but Jessica Guy answered with a layup to cut the lead to 6 with a little over 3 minutes to play in the first. IU Southeast pushed the lead back to 8, but a Tesha Wright free throw cut the lead to 7 at 22-15 with 2:20 left in the first half. A 3 point play by Ashmere Woods pushed IU Southeast’s lead to 10 at 25-15 with 2 minutes to go in the first half. A Kortney Woods free throw pushes the IU Southeast lead to 11 at the 1:33 mark in the first half. A driving layup by Brooke Willoughby extends the IU Southeast lead to 13 at 28-15. A Jessica Guy free throw cuts the deficit to 12 points before the end of the half. Shooting woes have led to Spalding falling behind in the first half. The Lady Golden Eagles are 5-22 from the field and 5-14 from the free throw line.

A Tesha Wrtight layup with 12:48 to play cuts the lead to 9 at 35-26, but a layup by Brooke Willoughby pushed IU Southeast the lead back to 11 on the next possession. A Hannah Washle steal and outlet pass to Kristen Baker for a layup cut the deficit to 9 with 11 minutes to go. A 3 pointer by Megan Wineinger extends the IU Southeast lead to 14 at 42-28. A Lindsey Roarx jumper cuts IU Southeast’s lead 23 with7:39 to play. A Jessica Guy layup cuts the IU Southeast lead to 25 with 6 minutes to play. A layup by Brooke Willoughby pushed the IU Southeast lead to 20 at 53-33 with 4 minutes to play. Over the last 4 minutes IU Southeast would extend their lead going on to win by 26.
