John Pedro
Assistant Soccer Coach
Coach Pedro begins his second season as a member of Spalding’s soccer staff. After a season spent primarily as a goalkeeper coach, he will have expanded responsibilities on Head Coach Kevin Cromwell’s staff. A native of Louisville, Coach Pedro was a three year varsity starter as goalkeeper on local powerhouse St. Xavier High School. He was an All-State performer in both his junior and senior seasons, leading the Tigers to the state championship in 1994. A veteran of the Louisville club soccer scene as a youth, Coach Pedro was also a starting goalkeeper on the Kentucky Olympic Development squad, and an ODP regional pool player.
Coach Pedro was awarded a scholarship to attend Xavier University in Cincinnati but an injury ended his college career after just one season. Undeterred, and still driven by his lifelong passion for soccer, he began coaching. Returning to his hometown, Coach Pedro completed his degree in Justice Administration from the University of Louisville. He spent four years as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart Academy primarily training and developing goalkeepers. He possesses a USSF “E” coaching license and is the head coach of a local under 12 boy’s team for Mockingbird Valley Soccer club. In addition he is a huge part of the goalkeeper academy at Mockingbird.
Kevin Cromwell believes that John’s experience will provide quality depth to the Spalding coaching staff. “John’s goalkeeping experience alone is invaluable, and of course that will be one of his primary responsibilities. However, John has played “big time” soccer as a youth and as a college player. He played in a Division 1 program, and can help our players understand the level of commitment that is necessary in training to be successful at a high level. This attitude will be important to us as we prepare our players for big matches in the upcoming season.” |
